Map Interface Basics

In this guide, you will learn how to use Map Viewer in GeoCloud - where you can view, analyze and interact with GIS data.

Why Map Viewer is Important?

Map Viewer is the heart of GeoCloud, where GIS data comes alive. This is where you:

Interface Components

Map Canvas

Main area:

  • Display map and data
  • Zoom and pan functionality
  • Mouse/touch interaction
  • Context menu (right-click)

Navigation controls:

  • Zoom In/Out: + / - buttons
  • Pan: Drag map
  • Full Extent: Display all data
  • Home: Reset to initial view

Toolbar

Basic tools:

  • Select: Select features on map
  • Pan: Move map
  • Zoom: Zoom in/out
  • Identify: View feature information

Drawing tools:

  • Point: Draw point
  • Line: Draw line
  • Polygon: Draw area
  • Text: Add text label

Measurement tools:

  • Distance: Measure distance
  • Area: Measure area
  • Coordinates: View coordinates

Layer Panel

Layer List:

  • Toggle layer visibility
  • Rearrange layers (drag & drop)
  • Layer properties and settings
  • Opacity control

Layer Actions:

  • Zoom to Layer: Zoom to layer
  • Remove: Delete layer
  • Properties: Layer settings
  • Export: Download layer

Working with Layers

Add New Layer

From Project Data:

  1. Click “Add Layer” button
  2. Select “From Project”
  3. Browse and select data
  4. Click “Add to Map”

Manage Layers

Layer Order:

  • Drag and drop to rearrange
  • Top layer displays first
  • Background layers at bottom

Display Control:

  • Toggle with checkbox
  • Set opacity (0-100%)
  • Scale-dependent display

GeoCloud uses MapLibre GL as the map engine:
